Before Surgery: Preparation Matters
Your pet’s care begins before the procedure.
When your pet arrives, our team reviews their medical history, confirms the planned procedure, answers your questions, and performs a pre-anesthetic assessment. Depending on your pet’s age, health, and procedure, additional diagnostics such as bloodwork or imaging may be recommended.
This allows our veterinary team to make informed decisions and develop an anesthetic and surgical plan specifically for your pet.
During Anesthesia: Continuous Monitoring
Anesthesia is much more than simply putting your pet to sleep. Your pet is continuously assessed throughout anesthesia and surgery.
Depending on the patient and procedure, monitoring may include:
- Heart rate and rhythm
- Blood pressure
- Oxygen levels
- Carbon dioxide levels
- Respiratory rate
- Body temperature
- Anesthetic depth
Our team watches these parameters closely so changes can be identified and addressed promptly.
Pain Management: Individualized for Your Pet
Pain control is an important part of your pet’s surgical care.
We consider your pet’s procedure, age, health, temperament, and individual needs when developing a pain-management plan. Whenever appropriate, pain management begins before surgery and continues through the procedure and recovery period.
Our goal is to anticipate and minimize discomfort rather than simply respond to pain after it occurs.
Recovery Is Part of the Procedure
Your pet’s care doesn’t end when surgery is complete.
Recovery from anesthesia is an important part of the surgical process. Our team continues to monitor your pet as they wake up, paying attention to their comfort, temperature, breathing, and overall condition.
Some pets recover quickly, while others need additional time and support. We do not rush recovery simply to move a patient through the hospital. Your pet is given the time they need to recover safely.
Why “High Quality, Not High Quantity” Matters
When comparing surgical estimates, it can be tempting to compare only the final price. However, two estimates may represent very different levels of care.
A surgical estimate may include much more than the procedure itself, including:
- Pre-operative evaluation and diagnostics
- Anesthesia and anesthetic monitoring

At CSAH, we intentionally limit the number of surgical procedures we schedule so our team can focus on each individual patient.

Every pet has a different medical history, anesthetic response, temperament, and recovery. Our approach allows us to provide care based on the individual patient rather than treating every surgery as a standardized transaction.

High-quality medicine requires trained professionals, appropriate equipment and medications, careful protocols, and—most importantly—time and attention.
That does not mean every pet needs every possible test or treatment. It means we evaluate each patient individually and make recommendations based on their specific needs.
