What is Veterinary Orthopedic Manipulation?
Spinal adjustments in animals, as in humans, can be performed via traditional hand-delivered thrusts or with the use of mechanical devices. Limb joints can be addressed the same way. One of the most common mechanical devices used is the spring-loaded Activator Adjusting Instrument. Because traditional chiropractic thrusts begin with the joint at the end of its range of motion and then force the joint beyond its elastic limits, there is known risk to the soft tissues surrounding and supporting those joints. With the Activator, the joint is relaxed in its neutral position throughout the adjustment while a very light and fast thrust stimulates key nervous system pathways, causing reflex release of habitual abnormal joint motion and physiology. When combined with therapies like acupuncture and herbal medicine, the benefits of Activator adjusting are even more profound.
It is important that adjustments be performed by a veterinarian. Animals can exhibit joint problems for a wide variety of reasons that go well beyond simple anatomy, and the solutions for which can be quite multi-faceted. A veterinarian can also better coordinate care when patients are dealing with multiple diseases at once, which is common in older patients.
Schedule a consultation today and take the first step towards a healthier, happier life for your pet. We believe in the power of holistic care to enhance the lives of pets and their families.
